CREATION.

I

Distance curved
And carved a rictus face
Out of the ice
Between us
That had settled since
The last sun made
Sweat filter
Through
The universe’s frock.

And winter’s grin
Was stronger than spring’s laughter;
Lingering between
The East
And Western poles
Of one disaster
Or another
That claimed a name
To part us,

Whilst atoms grieved
To see the loneliness
Their history
Had collected
Stretched ever onwards
Without hope
Of being etched
Upon a surface
Worthy of it.
